10am - 4pm

Level: intermediate

With a much heightened awareness of sustainability,  this one day course will show you how to create floral designs without using floral foam or plastic materials.

This is the perfect course for florists looking to update their current skills and look at the commercial options for incorporating sustainability into their current work.

Using natural resources you will learn how to cut down on materials that have an impact on the environment.  This often involves re-thinking designs that you are used to and offering a more natural and free-flowing design.  You will get to use new products onto the market alongside traditional techniques that were used long before foam was invented.

During the day we cover:

  • Alternatives to plastic
  • Alternatives to foam
  • Bio-degradable vs eco-friendly
  • Manufacturers and products available
  • Cost implications
  • Customer expectation
  • Woodland burial sites
  • Weddings and the practicalities of sustainable floristry

You will create a bespoke natural design during the day without wires, plastic or foam from which the skills can be adapted for funeral and wedding work.

There will also be demonstrations of new products.

This is an ideal opportunity to enhance your portfolio of work and offer additional services to your customers.

This course is aimed at florists already working in the industry and those currently training within the field.  This is not for beginners as we do not teach design but methods of construction.

The course includes all the flowers, foliage, sundries and containers that you need to complete the item(s).

You will also be provided with tools to use during the day.   If you wish to purchase tools, we have these available and can be purchased on the day.

We suggest you bring your camera to take photos as a reminder of what you have learnt during the day.

We recommend wearing  comfortable shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting wet or dirty (as flowers involve a bit of both!)

Please read our COVID-19 guidelines.

You will need to bring a packed lunch with you.  Hot and cold drinks will be provided.

This course is held at The Cambridge Flower School, Newton Hall, Town Street, Newton, Cambridge CB22 7ZE.

Important Information:  Whilst social distancing is in place we are limiting this course to 8 places only (instead of 12).  Should we have to cancel a course due to government guidelines we will offer you a transfer or a full refund.

"Nice venue, friendly and informative tutor.  Good method of step by step teaching and helpful to hear feedback to make changes if necessary.  Great to learn a new skill that can be transferred to other areas of floristry - so great value!
