Creative Funeral Flowers

Thursday 10th - Saturday 12th November 2022

10am - 4pm

Level: Beginners/Intermediate

Not always a subject that is easy to talk about - but funeral and sympathy work are an very important sector of floristry as it is still the one area that florists excel and supermarkets cannot!   It can also be extremely comforting to be able to make tributes for family and friends who have lost loved ones - they will appreciate having someone creating their personal tributes with love and attention.  From designing a garden tribute incorporating vegetables to a 3-D handbag for a glamorous lady - it is truly satisfying and creative work.

This 3 day course covers important designs in floristry work and is suitable for complete beginners or those looking to improve their skills and design knowledge.

We look at both traditional and contemporary designs - including both sustainable and biodegradable designs.

At the end of this course you will have the confidence and skills to design a wide range of funeral tributes. You take home all the designs you create during the course.

Suitable for beginners and those looking to improve their skills and portfolio.

"Once again I thoroughly enjoyed my course!  I feel quite confident in doing some funeral work now.  Cannot wait to do another one!  Can't wait to do another course.  Thank you so much Sarah, I'll be back again soon"
Jo Leleu | February 2017

The core subjects covered on this Creative Funeral Flowers Intensive course are:

  • Sprays: creating natural sheaves, single ended and double ended designs.
  • Foam frames - creating 2-D shapes and bevelled ribbon edging for traditional funeral designs such as hearts, lettering and cushions.
  • 3-D Designs - structure and designing.  You will design a 3-D shape using biodegradable foam and decorate using moss, flowers, leaves and foliage.
  • Eco-friendly and biodegradable tributes - creating birch & willow based designs.  You will create a completely biodegradable wreath suitable for a woodland burial site.
  • Bespoke designs - taking a client brief and designing a tribute.
  • Costing and quotations for funeral designs.

The course includes all the flowers and materials required to complete the course along with a course manual, notebook and pen to take invaluable notes. We also recommend you bring a camera to record your progress and finished designs.

You will need to bring a packed lunch with you each day.  Hot and cold drinks are provided.

You will also be provided with tools to use during the course.   If you wish to purchase tools, we have these available and can be purchased during the course.

We would recommend wearing  comfortable shoes and clothing that you don't mind getting wet or dirty (as flowers involve a bit of both!)
