Level: Intermediate

Creating designs suitable that are completely compostable requires a completely different set of skills to more traditional funeral flowers.    The designs themselves, because of the method of construction, are inspired by nature.   A requirement of many woodland burial sites, these are specialist skills and a perfect "niche" market.   Beautiful, natural designs, they are fast becoming a favourite with cremations and church burials too!

This one day course will introduce you to creating bases from materials that will naturally decompose (so no wires, foam, plastic bases, metal frames or chicken wire).

We will start with a wreath.  Weaving birch you will create your own base and then decorate with seasonal flowers to create a very natural meadow inspired design.

Secondly you will create a moss base using entirely natural materials to design a coffin spray.   We call it the "bird's nest"!  A labyrinth of natural materials carefully joined together to make a solid base into which you can insert flowers and foliage.

Suitable for those who are working florists looking to move into compostable funeral designs.

"Really thoroughly enjoyed it. Made to feel really comfortable as a beginner to floristry. Really well taught and demonstrated. Loved the 3 aspects to it as well I've come away knowing a lot more than I did this morning - would love to come back for another course someday soon. Thank you!."
— Sarah Parry | Floristry Taster Day
Excellent instruction, has created so many ideas as well as challenges, certainly has made me question the way I was thinking of doing things, and excited to get things started now. Sarah was fun and entertaining in presentation and extremely informative, thanks!
