How the school was born

If you have ever had a passion then it is very difficult to let go of it!   Floristry is my passion - I absolutely love working with flowers, the smell of opening the studio door in the morning as the fragrance hits you and even the cold mornings at market. Floristry is not an easy career - but it is so infectious!

The Cambridge Flower School combines my two loves - floristry and teaching.  Having owned and run a successful floristry business in Cambridgeshire for many years having left my teaching career (adults, not children!), I decided to do what I have also wanted to do - teach floristry.  Making it fun, informal and really accessible to all is my aim.

What should I expect to find at the school?

You will find inspiration at the school.  Not only will you learn floristry skills to use at home or as a basis for a new career, you will find that you will use a variety of flowers and foliage that you may never have seen before.   We are always looking for new and more exotic varieties for our students to work with.

Our workshops and courses are led by the tutor - you watch and learn and then it's your turn!  Step by step you build your design with the help of the tutor.  You will find every session full of encouragement and creativity with a warm and friendly welcome.  You will leave full of confidence.

Our school is situated at Newton Hall near Cambridge.  An early 20th century country house with extensive grounds, high ceilings and wonderful large sash windows it is an ideal environment for creative inspiration.

We take regular breaks - all fuelled by tea, coffee and cake (we love cake at the school).  If you are attending a full day course or workshop we have a light lunch.

Having trouble choosing?

The Cambridge Flower School offers a range of different floristry workshops to suit anyone with an interest in flowers or simply wants a new creative hobby. Choose from one of our Christmas or seasonal Workshops or book a closed workshop for you and group of friends for a really individual day.

If you are considering floristry as more than a hobby, then one of our career change courses could be just what you need.  If you need advise on what is suitable for you then please give us a call - we can talk flowers for hours!

Take a look at our blog as well - we often have ideas that you might just find useful.
